What’s Coming up-Week of January 25-29, 2021

Hey parents!

What a week it’s been! Aside from the regular academic items listed below, we spent some time talking about Martin Luther King, Jr, and the Inauguration events this week. Notably, we watched and read through a transcript of Amanda Gorman’s “The Hill We Climb” as she recited it for the event on Wednesday.  We discussed the tone of hope that occurs during each administration change-over and how relevant it is to our everyday lives. We held on to the quote at the end:

“For there is always light,

if only we’re brave enough to see it.

If only we’re brave enough to be it”

We discussed that we need to be the light for each other and be brave and bold to stand up for ourselves and others.  Watch below if you missed it!

Social & Emotional Learning – Habitudes: Hosts & Guests

People of influence take the initiative in relationships. They are intentional about them. They see themselves as hosts, not guests, and they go out of their way to connect with people and provide for them. The image of Hosts and Guests teaches social engagement. This week, your child learned about relationship skills, which is a core competency of Social and Emotional Learning. Relationship skills involve the ability to establish and maintain healthy and rewarding relationships with diverse individuals and groups. This includes communicating clearly, listening actively, cooperating, resisting inappropriate social pressure, negotiating conflict constructively, and seeking and offering help when needed.
